A group on a guided walk among Fažana’s colourful houses

Fažana · History and local flavours

Fažana, between the sea and the olive trees

Join me for a walk through Fažana’s squares and small churches, then on to its historic olive grove. We finish with an olive oil tasting at a local restaurant: a relaxed way to discover the village through its history and flavours.

From the village to the olive grove

Our walk takes approximately 45–60 minutes. From the main square we head to the small Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, then follow the waterfront past the statue of Mate Parlov to the San Lorenzo olive grove. In the eighteenth century it belonged to the bishop of Pula; some trees are more than 400 years old. Afterwards, we return to the village for the tasting.

Two olive trees with a story to tell

Oceana and Vasiana are among the oldest olive trees in the park. DNA analysis revealed genetic profiles absent from the databases consulted. Their names tell another part of Fažana’s story: during our walk, I share why they were chosen and what they recall.

From Roman amphorae to the tasting table

In Roman times, Fažana produced amphorae used to distribute Istrian olive oil across the Empire. That long history leads us to the table. The tasting at a local restaurant lasts about 45 minutes: we try two olive oils, Buža (Busa) and Bjelica (Bianchera), with two types of cheese, two types of local cured meats, bread, apple slices and water. As an olive oil sommelier, I help you recognise the aromas, bitterness and pungency of the oils.

Plan your experience with me

Book this experience on its own or arrange it as an additional visit after returning from Brijuni. It is separate from the approximately three-hour island tour. Allow approximately 1½–1¾ hours for the walk and tasting together. Send me your preferred date and group size: we agree on a time and I prepare a proposal with the costs clearly stated.
